Would I be in the right if this were to happen?

If I was innocently walking down the street and a man approached me for directions, but I didn't know his agenda, would it be okay if I sprayed him in the eyes with mace and kicked him in the groin, even if I was wrong? (considering how ALL men are potential rapists and attackers)?
