How well do chicken livers work, for crabbing?

i like in maryland just south of baltimore 2 minutes from a park and peir so i fish/crab often im fairly good at it the waters only about 4ft to maybe 6 at the deepest, i plan to wrap these necks in a pinkish red mesh, then again with a thicker white i figured a double wrap would keep the livers in the netting longer and keep the crabs from tearing them apart.
