We always told our daughter to just be friends with guys and she would find the one that she wanted to spend her life with. She never dated, went "steady," or whatever you call it until she was out of college. She just had loads of fun going places with a group of friends. She and her friends enjoyed life and each other. She realized after going to college that there were some really fun and intelligent people who were so different from the ones she knew in high school. She has mentioned many times how glad she is that she never "got caught in the dating trap" as there were so many girls who missed out by being tied to a "boyfriend." She married her best friend and has been extremely happy for over 30 years. The boy she married was just like her; having friends but no close relationship until he met her and realized he wanted to spend his life with her.
